Well, in just a few days we will be in 2017. Hard to believe, right?! I have way too many things left to do in 2016 for the new year to be coming so soon.
New Year’s resolutions can have a bad reputation at times simply because it is common to be successful in the first month or two but then something happens and the changes initiated by the resolution don’t even last the whole year, let alone result in a permanent change. I understand this isn’t everyone but I’m sure you know what I’m talking about. We’ve all seen the memes…..
Now usually I’m not someone that’s big on this whole resolution thing. I strongly believe that goal setting should be part of our daily lives, not just something that happens once a year. That being said, I had an interesting thought about this year’s resolution. I went with the approach of adding something to my life that I would enjoy and make my day to day life a little less stressful.
Starting at a young age I loved to read. Reading was something I did daily, sometimes for hours without even realizing how much time had passed. Now, being a student and working all the time, the majority of my reading is textbooks and work-related materials. As I talk to others around me, I realize, that in the past 4-5 years, I’ve missed out on some pretty great reads. So, my new year’s resolution is to start incorporating reading for leisure at least 2-3 days a week for a half hour.
I feel that too many people have too much on their plate and are overly stressed (okay, maybe that’s just me). Adding something to your day that you can find pleasure in can help take the edge off and, overall, make life more satisfying.
So, my challenge to you is, forget the weight loss, new diet, gym membership resolutions. (Forget about that stuff just as resolutions, make small goals for those types of things weekly or monthly!) Make your resolution something that will make you a happier human and bring a little more positivity into your life.
Happy New Year!!
