Birthday Weekend: Celebrating My 21st and a 21 Day Challenge

Hey everyone and happy Wednesday!
This past weekend I celebrated my 21st birthday (woo hoo!) and had a blast. I started off my weekend chaperoning my brother’s honor roll trip on Friday. We went to Bay Shore Camp, a youth Christian camp, for the day. Unfortunately, it rained most of the day but we were able to take advantage of the basketball courts, 9-square and rock wall indoors. I even played basketball with Brennen and some of the other chaperones! (Talk about a cardio workout…)

Even though it was raining that didn’t keep us from playing putt putt golf on the camp’s 18-hole course. I really enjoyed my time, even though keeping four 11-year old boys under control with golf clubs and golf balls presented a bit of a challenge.

I left after lunch while the kids spent the rest of the day watching a movie. It was time for me to run home and get ready for my second event of the day. I had the privilege of judging the scholarship auditions for my old dance studio for a second year. It was awesome to see how the kids improve over the year and I hope to be able to return to teach soon!

And THEN, I even made it back in time to watch Wesley in his baseball game…what a day!

Even though I worked all day Saturday, I was incredibly excited and had a countdown all day until my actual birthday (with my birthday being Sunday). I got done working with just enough time to come home, change, and head out to celebrate at midnight. I ended up back at the restaurant I work at..imagine that. A few friends met us there and my roommate, Scott, had no problem shoving a bowl of whipped cream into my face.

We didn’t stay long but this night was definitely unforgettable. I have some awesome people in my life, including my coworkers!

Sunday was a pretty chill day. Doing a whole lot of nothing on my birthday was the best birthday present ever! Oh, and the fact that I booked the hotel for our Colorado trip!

Can’t wait to see this beautiful state!

We went to go see Pitch Perfect 2 in the afternoon and I scored a free popcorn because it was my birthday! The movie was great. It was definitely funnier and more entertaining than I thought. If you’re looking for a good laugh, I would recommend it.

I must say that 21 has been pretty good to me so far. And one of the best parts of being 21…

….being able to buy and enjoy GT’s Classic Kombucha! (Because the classic version could contain a higher alcohol content than 0.5% from fermentation you must be 21 to purchase.) Can’t say I know many 21-year olds that celebrate with kombucha, but, if you haven’t yet, this stuff is worth a try! I could go on and on about the benefits of kombucha (and maybe someday I will) but for now you can look here.

In other news, Monday marked 21 days without coffee (and energy drinks)!!

21days

For those of you that know me, this may surprise you and you may think this was some sort of miracle. Trust me, I didn’t think I was going to be able to make it happen, but I did it! It takes 21 days to make or break a habit, and my caffeine intake was nothing short of a habit. The only caffeine I had in these 21 days was in green tea and found myself replacing coffee with a kombucha (the altered recipe without the alcohol of course). I feel like I have more natural energy now and I don’t feel chronically fatigued. It’s pretty awesome!! That being said, I will always love coffee and I’m looking forward to getting my hands on a white mocha or soy vanilla latte, but I’m gonna give it a few more days before I give in.

Is there something you should be giving up or adding for 21 days to change your bad habits or encourage new, good habits? I would love to hear what those are and what fun would it be if I didn’t challenge you to actually go through with it!? Comment below and commit to this 21 day challenge!
