COMING SOON: Food Focus

October 25, 2016 Posted by Hannah Boyl Food, Food Focus

Over the last few weeks I have putting quite a bit of thought into this blog and how I wanted to try to fit in a more nutrition-based segment to help educate readers. Which, I feel, only makes sense being that this whole nutrition thing is kind of my new found passion.

Finally, in the last few days it hit me: Food Focus (credit for the name goes to Matt) – a segment that allows me to highlight a certain food and its benefits and shortcomings. I plan on researching foods, those that are usually labeled as “health foods” in particular, to let you know some of the science behind these foods. I’m so looking forward to doing this, not only to give you information, but to encourage my own research on foods and increase my knowledge as well.

First up is a food that I’ve come to LOVE in the last few years, coconut, more specifically, MCT oil. This post will be coming to you in the next week or so.

This is also one of those things where I want to help you as much as possible so I want your feedback. What foods do you want to learn about? Let me know in the comments below!

It’s Not All About Weight Loss: Tips to Gain Weight

Dec 12, 2019

The first thing that probably comes to mind when you think about asking someone for help related to nutrition is weight loss. That is true, I can definitely help if you need to shed some extra pounds, however, my skill set expands much further than that. On the other end of the spectrum, there are those that wish to GAIN weight and have trouble doing so. I’m going to assume that when it comes to weight gain, most of us would like to gain muscle over anything, and there are specific strategies to do just that.

The most obvious way to promote weight gain is to simply eat continuously. Unfortunately, that has the potential to make us feel incredibly uncomfortable and probably leads to more fat than muscle gain. We should be shooting for at least 500 calories more than we’re burning each day. This can provide a modest calorie increase without making us feel too miserable.

Recipe – Sweet Potato Toast

Apr 13, 2018

Over the course of the last few months, I have had my fair share of experimenting with grain-free, gluten-free, paleo-type food options. My current diet is more paleo-ish than 100% paleo, but definitely paying more attention to the ingredients in my food and limiting the not-so paleo things.

In my search for paleo-like foods, I came across a sweet potato toast recipe by The Real Food Dietitians.  (I highly suggest this site for some yummy recipes and great advice.) I decided to give it a shot and came up with my own rendition of the recipe.

Quick and Easy Cauliflower Pizza

Dec 19, 2017

Last week I shared on social media my cauliflower pizza and a few of you mentioned that you would be interested in learning about the products I used as well as the recipe. I used a frozen cauliflower crust so this is actually really simple... but seriously, I think the fact that they're now making these frozen cauliflower crusts is UH-MAZING!

The brand that we found at our local Meijer was called Caulipower.
