Goals, Part 1: Why is Goal Setting Important?

September 5, 2019 Posted by Hannah Boyl health, Life, Motivation

why set goals, check mark

This month I’ll be talking about goal setting, why it’s important, the best strategies to set goals, and other ways to ensure you reach your goals. So to start out, why do we even need them?!

Have you ever set goals for yourself? Short-term or long-term?

What have you done to make sure you stick to those goals? Do you write them down? Do you create manageable steps towards larger, long-term goals?

Do you know why it’s important to set goals?

When you have something to work towards, this helps to focus your time and resources to achieving that specific task.

Think about the last time you set a specific goal. What was it related to? Did you achieve it? If yes, what strategies did you use? If no, where do you think things went wrong?

This week, I’m just pointing out the fact that goal setting is useful and I believe everyone should participate in this practice. You can use goals for your work, activity, nutrition, family, and really anything else!

For every client I see, I am setting goals with them. That’s a foundational piece of how I run my sessions. Each week we are seeing if we can make changes based on a few things we set as goals for. It’s the small changes that we make on a week-to-week basis that lead to the long-term goals of health, weight loss, or other major changes.

A big factor in goal setting is having a reason behind your goals. What’s your personal “why?” This will be a deciding factor in what your goals are and the motivation to push towards success. Take some time this week to think about your previous experience with goal setting, how you’ve approached it in the past, and what your personal “why” would be for making changes in all areas of your life (work, family, fun, etc).

Next week I’ll have a post related to using your why and things you would like to achieve in order to write out goals that you can put into action!

The Burning Question: Where to Get Good Information

Mar 14, 2019

I did a nutrition seminar at the beginning of the month and one of the questions I got really made me stop and think. I was talking about the plethora of misinformation available in the media when it comes to nutrition and was asked, “Where would you suggest we go to look for good information?” I really had to take a second and think about it. Was there one place on the internet that I really trusted to get it all right? Was there one place I could feel comfortable sending these people to get additional information? Unfortunately, I really couldn’t think of anything.

So how did I answer…

Nutrition Challenge Results

Oct 2, 2019

If you follow me on social media, you know that I recently finished up a nutrition challenge at The Pursuit in Frankenmuth.

Some of the participants gave me permission to share their individual results and some shared words related to their experience. I have been posting these on my social media weekly, but here is a compilation of all of those results!

Over the course of the next month, Abs So Fruitly will be transitioning to Hannah RDN. A new name, new branding, and shifting focus to work on what I’m passionate about, sports and wellness nutrition.
